Dock sales happening now and ocean charters coming in May

We’re still doing live crab sales and we’re looking forward to adding some Black Cod and Rock Fish to the menu soon.  This crab season has been extremely tough.  There has not been an abundance of crab and weather windows to get on the ocean have been short.  With crabbing slowing down to a trickle we’re excited to start ocean charters in May.  To get hooked up give us a call 707-616-3716

Klamath and Trinity Rivers are still putting out quality fish.

Over the last month I’ve been fishing the Klamath and Trinity Rivers.  The fish this year have not been big the average size being around 9 pounds.  We have been averaging 4-5 salmon a day with few adult Steelhead mixed in.  We’re currently getting rain right now in Humboldt and I’m hoping the Smith will come into shape.

Let’s get ready for Fall fishing on the Klamath and Trinity Rivers!  I start guiding on the Trinity and Klamath Rivers in Northern California on Sept 1st.  These trips are great for those who want to enjoy a day on the river in a quiet and peaceful setting.  Throughout the day we will target King Salmon and Summer Steelhead from a very comfortable 17′ aluminum drift boat.  My boat is outfitted with padded seats and a heater to keep you warm and warm up those breakfast burritos and left over pizza for lunch.  All guest must provide a valid California fishing license, Salmon and Steelhead punch cards.  The limit this year for Salmon on the Klamath and Trinity Rivers are:  1 King over 22 inches and 1 King 22 inches and under can be retained.  2 hatchery steelhead can be retained.

Remember good attitude and attention to detail are the key ingredients to having a successful day on the river.

Winter Steelhead up Next

Fall salmon and steelhead wrap up.
Here on the North Coast I have wrapped up my Fall season on the Trinity and Klamath Rivers Overall it was a great season, better than expected considering the return predictions for 2018. In my opinion they were much better. Bright fish in decent numbers were not hard to come by.  I expect next Fall season to be comparable.  For 2019 my Fall trips will start in September and go through October.
Whats up next?  Winter Steelhead!  In between commercial crabbing I will be squeezing in a few Winter Steelhead trips.  If you’re interested call or email for details.

Fall Salmon Bite Is Heating Up

Fishing here on the North Coast started off with a bang for me in mid September. As we neared the end of the month fishing got a little spotty. Limits of large Kings were taken through the third week. The last week tested our skills and we worked hard to scratch out a few fish a day. The Fish we had locked down seemed to dissapear over night. I ventured up river and never really seemed to find a very aggressive school of fish. This is typical for this time of year. It’s still early for the fall run where I fish and as we get further into fall more fish will stack up in the river and fishing will become more consistent. Winter Steelhead Wrap Up

The Winter Steelhead season came to end for me in March. It played out to be much like I had expected. The fishing was challenging in the beginning but picked up in mid season and towards the end. The Eel River was fishable through out most of the season due to lack of rain which was nice because its close to home although I would not have minded more precipitation this winter. All in all I had a great season. On the tough days we made the most of it by never giving up and our persistence almost always paid off. On the days when the fishing was good we got to relax a little more and take in our surroundings rather than constantly focussing on every detail of our presentation. Another shot at Smith River Salmon on the horizon.

Fishing on the Smith River is tough right now due to low and clear conditions. With a bump in the river level forcasted for Thursday and Friday things could get spiced up a bit. More precipitation is forcasted for next week which could bring the Smith up to a optimum level for fishing.

Cooler weather should heat up the fishing

I fished Sunday and Monday and fishing seemed to be about the same as the last time I was on the water. We managed to put fish in the net each day with scores between 3-5 fish per day, mainly salmon and a couple of steelhead. We had to work hard for what we did catch beings the fish were a little reluctant to bite. I predict with the inland temps cooling down the fishing will improve and we will start seeing better scores. I will be back on the river this weekend and through the following week.
